As spring approaches, it’s time to give your yard the attention it deserves. Spring is a great time to refresh your landscape, prepare your hardscape, and set the stage for a great outdoor space. Here's a list of ways you can get your yard ready for warmer weather.

1. Clean Up Your Yard
Winter can leave behind debris, dead leaves, and broken branches. Freshen up your spring landscaping and:
  • Rake up leaves and remove debris from your lawn and garden beds.
  • Prune dead or damaged branches from trees and shrubs.
  • Clear out gutters and drains to prevent water buildup.

2. Prepare Your Garden Beds
Spring is the best time to start planting flowers, shrubs, and vegetables. Prepare your garden and:
  • Remove weeds and old mulch from garden beds.
  • Turn and enrich the soil with compost or organic matter.
  • Apply a fresh layer of mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
  • Choose seasonal flowers and plants that thrive Ohio.

3. Inspect and Maintain Hardscaping
  • Check your patios, walkways and retaining walls and make necessary repairs to cracks or shifting in pavers, bricks, or stones.
  • Pressure wash moss or algae buildup.
  • Reseal worn-out sealant on patios and driveways.

4. Plan Your Spring Planting
Spring is an excellent time to introduce new plants to your landscape. Consider the type of flowers and plants you want to add to your landscape. Some factors to consider are plant maintenance, color, and function.

 5. Install or Upgrade Outdoor Features
Take your outdoor space to the next level by adding:
  • A fire pit or outdoor fireplace for cozy spring evenings.
  • Landscape lighting to highlight walkways and garden beds.
  • A new patio or pergola to create a functional outdoor living area.
  • Water features like fountains or ponds for a tranquil touch.

6. Schedule Regular Maintenance
Keeping your yard in top shape requires ongoing care. Stay on top of it and:
  • Set up a mowing and edging schedule.
  • Check for pests and treating problem areas early.
  • Regularly prune and shape shrubs and trees.

7. Enjoy Your Outdoor Space!
Once your spring landscaping is complete, it’s time to enjoy your outdoor space! Host a backyard gathering, relax on your newly refreshed patio, or simply take in the beauty of your well-maintained yard.
