Our Design Process

11/8/2023

Lorenz Landscape has access to a wide variety of stone, concrete pavers, lighting, water and softscape products. We work with the best stone manufacturers and distributors around. During our design process we will be able to recommend the best options based on your desires and budget. We only use products and manufacturers we trust.

Before designing a patio, the first thing to take into consideration is the budget. Many factors affect the cost of the patio, such as size, products used, cost and complexity of install, etc. If the budget is larger, more accessories can be added, such as seat walls, fire pits, pergolas, and lighting. We also take the site into consideration. We consider different things like if there is a need to deconstruct existing structures, or if a retaining wall is needed.

After obtaining that information, we can begin the design process!

STEP 1: CREATE A 3D DESIGN WITH PROPOSAL
We design based on style and preference of the customer. We encourage our customers to look through our website portfolio, or other websites such as Pinterest, to get an idea of what you would like us to create. Then, we create a 3D design which helps you be able to visualize being on your new patio before it is even built! It takes several hours to create custom designs and we do charge a small fee to help compensate us for our time, efforts and knowledge.

STEP 2: DESIGN APPROVAL
Once the design is created we can set up another meeting to discuss and make any necessary revisions. We'll also show you sample colors in person, so you can see what they will really look like in your space. Once you approve the design and quote, we can schedule your project!

STEP 3: YOUR PROJECT BEGINS!
After you approve the design and quote we can schedule your project! Lead time from design to project start varies based on the time of year. Spring and summer are our busiest months and typically have longer wait times.

Repairing Pavers

Do you have pavers that have sunken or are settling?

A great benefit of pavers is that they can be repaired without tearing it out! As opposed to concrete, pavers can be repaired without having to tear out the entire area that is paved.

In order to repair the area, we follow a few standard steps. First, we pull up the area that has settled. Next, we assess why it failed. There are numerous reasons as to why patios may settle. Some problems that we often see include:
  • animals, such as chipmunks, getting under the base and pulling material out
  • not having an edge restraint, so bedding material migrated out of the pavers
  • improper compaction during installation
  • water getting in the base and not being able to properly drain.
After assessing the issue, we address the issue. Finally, we recompact the base, put everything back together, and re-sand the paved area.

Repairing pavers is something that can be done any time of the year, as long as the ground isn’t frozen!

Repairing pavers is a service that we offer at Lorenz Landscape. We love helping customers get their patios and paved areas back to looking great! Contact us today for a quote!

Fall is a great time for planting!

September through November is an ideal time to plant trees in Ohio.

  • The cooler weather is less stressful on trees. Due to fall rains, there is less maintenance involved in caring for the tree. They require less watering. Planting in the fall gives adequate time, from fall until summer, for roots to grow and become established before the hot summer weather. Even with cold temperatures, tree roots will continue to grow throughout the winter months, resulting in large root systems before the following summer.

Pavilion or Pergola?

7/19/2023

Pavilions and pergolas are often mistaken for one another, or people often think they are the same thing. They, however, are different.

Pavilions are closed roof structures. This means that they can protect from rain and provide shade. Due to the roof structure, though, in some municipalities, they require stricter permitting. Pavilions are also often more expensive than pergolas.

Pergolas are structures that provide shade to an area. They are less expensive than pavilions. In some municipalities, a permit may still be required for building.

A louvered pergola is a hybrid option, and middle ground between a pavilion and traditional pergola. It will protect from the rain and provide shade, while often being less expensive than a pavilion. At Lorenz, we have experience in building all three options, and can help you figure out what would be best for you and your outdoor space!
