How to Properly Maintain a Paver Patio

Some people have misconceptions about paver patios. They think paver patios are difficult to maintain. People think that you’ll have to deal with weeds growing between cracks, and pavers coming out of place. The truth, however, is if your patio was properly installed, a paver patio is very low maintenance. Pavers won’t move, and weeds won’t come up. To properly maintain your patio, the main thing is to keep it clean. Keep leaves and debris off of it on a regular basis, so it stays clean. You can lightly pressure wash it from time to time, but make sure it’s on a low setting so the sand doesn’t come out of the joints. Polymeric sand is what keeps the pavers in place.

Occasionally, drainage issues might cause settling with pavers, and those may need to be addressed. 

Every 2-5 years, we recommend re-sanding your patio. Polymeric sand needs to be replaced more often in shady areas than in the sun. In order to re-sand your patio, start with pressure washing it really well. Make sure to get all of the polymeric sand out of the joints. Let it dry, and then reinstall the polymeric sand. When doing this, it’s also a great time to reseal your patio. That’s it!
